"My friend didn’t return from the battlefield, sir. Request permission to fetch him," said a soldier to his general.
"Permission denied" said the officer. "I do not want to risk your life for a man who is probably dead."
The soldier ignoring the ban went out and returned an hour later mortally wounded, carrying the corpse of his friend.
The general was furious.
"I told you so he was dead! now tell me: was it worth you have gone there to bring a corpse?"
And the soldier, badly injured, said:
